Bishops close the gap on table leaders with bonus point win.

Sunday 15th April, Bishops were hosted by Rugby Club Biel-Bienne at Sportplatz Mettmoos. After a sound but frustrating win against Schaffhausen, better accuracy and execution was expected.

With perfect conditions for open, running rugby, the majority of the first half was spent inside the Biel half with Tom Wright (7) opening the scoring after 4 minutes with one of his trademark runs, leaving defenders grasping thin air in his wake. A successful conversion meant the green & whites were off to an ideal start 7-0.

At the 17 minute mark, Dominik Chiavi (12) showed his return to form as he scythed through the Biel-Bienne defence to score. Quick reactions from a penalty saw Gareth Davies (9) capitalise on poor defensive organisation, putting winger Maurice Abderhalden (11) over for a try in the corner, which was then converted from wide out.

Bishops went into the break with a 19-0 lead, but not before losing leading try-scorer Tom Wright to a hamstring injury and Maurice Abderhalden with a shoulder/chest injury. Replacements Gianluca Alker & Lukas Casty maintained the high standard set by the first half try scorers contributing effectively to the St. Gallen effort in the 2nd half.

RC Biel-Bienne opened their account 5 minutes into the 2nd half by slotting a penalty goal. However, constant pressure and possession in the opposition 22 metre zone resulted in St. Gallen scoring 3 second half tries: Malcolm Fraser (10), Gareth Davies and Christopher Douillet (6) with Davies also adding 3 more conversions and a penalty.

RC Biel-Bienne, through their hard running and tackling centre combination (including former Bishop Timur Bolt) saw their impressive outside centre break through the St. Gallen line to score under the posts. A successful conversion meant the match ended 41 to 10.
