Bishops Secure Gritty Win

By Malcolm Fraser

Bishops cling to 3-0 lead to down 2017/18 LNC champions RC Würenlos

In almost perfect rugby conditions, RC St. Gallen Bishops narrowly defeated RC Würenlos in what is traditionally a tough encounter, especially at home with many vocal supporters lining the field.

Sunday proved to be no exception with gritty defence by both teams forcing numerous handling errors, which proved the undoing of many promising attacking opportunities. A lone penalty conversion to RC St. Gallen in the first half provided the only points of the game.

RC Würenlos dominated the match with well drilled set phases and threatening sweeping attacks, meaning RC St. Gallen were forced to up their tackling also displaying great line speed and pressure. However, with a make-shift pack going backwards, it was a tough day up front and even tougher without front foot ball for the backs. With relief and jubilation, St. Gallen cleared the ball immediately after the last play was announced not wanting to allow any chance of an overtime score from their ever-dangerous opponents.

St. Gallen's Adrian D. and Dominik E. were awarded tackler and man-of-the-match for their impressive work rates throughout the match.

Thanks to RC Würenlos for your generous hospitality and rugby spirit, our referee and naturally our support crew assisting on the day.
