Bishops continue winning streak beating Rugby Club Ticino 22 - 0

Saturday 29th April, Bishops were hosted by Rugby Club Ticino at Stadio Comunale Giubiasco. After a slow start against an under-manned Solothurn outfit the previous week, Bishops aimed to get out of the blocks much faster against the men from the South.

However, a number of midweek injuries and illnesses meant that Bishops were depleted to just 16 players on the match sheet with forwards having to adjust to playing in the back line. When starting half back Silvan Hug was sidelined within the first 10 minutes with a head injury, the green & whites knew they would have to grind it out to get the win.

Despite a short sprinkle of rain, the conditions were ideal for open, running rugby, with wing-convert, Club President, Andreas Kern (aka Schinkä) opening the scoring. Bishops continually applied pressure in both attack and defence, seldom allowing RCT inside their 22 metre zone.

With frustration setting in at times for both teams and tempers fraying, Daniel Roduner bagged a brace, breaking a number of tackles and running both tries in from 30 metres out. Malcolm Fraser completed the 4-try bonus point win with a pick and go a few metres out from the Ticino try line. Oliver Baumgartner hit 1/2 conversions with Malcolm Fraser missing 2/2.

Man of the match: Anselm Ivanovas, whose defensive effort and understanding of the game is showing marked improvement.

Bishops now have a 2-week break before the highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash against Rugby Club Würenlos. However, our partner club Vorarlberg have a game scheduled for the 5th April against Liechtenstein. Come and experience Ländle rugby hospitality.

Thanks to our bus driver/Pfister for getting us to and from the match and the referee. Naturally a huge thanks to our sponsors and our support team, cheering, running water, administering first aid and touch line duties.
