In cold, wet conditions, RC St. Gallen Bishops downed hosts RC Luzern 22 - 9 with an impressive defensive performance. For the 3rd consecutive match, Bishops kept their opponents try-less, having only conceded 1 try in their last 4 matches.
However, lapses in concentration and discipline saw Luzern draw first blood converting 3 penalties for a total of 9 points.
Man-of-the-match Cedric Chiavi and the Bishops backline were obviously not informed that wet weather rugby means little action in attack. Despite the conditions, 3 sweeping raids with concise passing and running lines, resulted in 3 well-worked tries to the backs Cedric C. (2) and Severin K. The 4th coming after a well-organised forward surge with captain Oliver B. dotting down.
With 2 remaining matches in the 2018/19 season, Bishops will need to step up a gear if they want to avenge their 1st round losses against RC Zug 55-15, and LNC leaders RC Basel 20 - 10.
With home field advantage, Bishops will welcome having their 16th (wo)man as they aim to finish the 2nd round unbeaten.
Thanks again to RC Luzern, our referee and our non-playing support group.
