After an early score from Basel, Bishops responded shortly after with their own 7-pointer. A solid build up from St.Gallen's forwards created an opportunity for Jonas Bindernagel to break the Basel defensive line and score under the posts which was converted by Captain Oliver Baumgartner. The game see-sawed with exciting attack and stubborn defence from both teams. Baumgartner converted a penalty shortly before half time and the men from St. Gallen took a 10-7 lead into the break.
With the game in the balance, Basel crossed the line after 25 mins. With the conversion and later a penalty, Basel scored 10 unanswered points in the second half. Man of the Match Johannes Eberle came close to bringing the Bishops back into the game, but was held up in goal. The Bishop's dominant scrum was unable to take advantage of the resulting 5-metre scrum and Basel cleared their line.
A frustrating defeat at the hands of table leaders Basel, Bishops can be proud of their tenacity and never-say-die attitude. The match displayed solid team effort with encouraging signs of improvement across all 15 positions.
