Rugby Club St. Gallen narrowly missed a clean sweep against Zug RC, winning 2 from 3 matches .
In the NLFB Women, a serious concussion to a Zug RC player saw the match delayed after just 2 minutes of playing time, but the Cindies were relentless when play finally resumed. Cindies won their match convincingly 31-19.
The Men's NLC clash was also a hard fought battle with both teams likely in need of 1-2 days of recovery. Hosts Zug opened the scoring with a converted try on the 15 minute mark. After trading penalty kicks, it was Tom Wright who returned to try scoring form with an impressive solo effort, carving through the opposition defensive line and beating 2 covering defenders to dot down. With the successful conversion and a further penalty conversion by Man-of-the-Match, Alex Masters, Bishops went into the half-time break with a 18-10 lead.
The first half wasn't without controversy as Captain Oliver Baumgartner was yellow carded for an unfortunate collision with the opposition flanker. Despite being reduced to 14 players, St. Gallen were able to hold out the Zug offensive waves until the end of the period.
In the 2nd half, Zug also had a player yellow carded after just 10 minutes, which Bishops were able to capitalise on. Daniel Llano finished an upfield surge, crashing over to score on the 59 minute mark. Masters converted again taking Bishops out to a 23-10 lead. However a a red card to Bishops centre Jonas Bindernagel provided Zug the opportunity they needed to hit back with a 2nd try of their own. Zug were a constant threat until Bishops regained possession and pinned their opposition deep inside their own 22. Managing to maintain field position for the final 3 minutes of the match, Bishops held on for a well deserved 23-17 win.
The NLC match was then followed by a high scoring and entertaining friendly game between Bishops 2 and Zug 2. Bishops took the early advantage, running in 4 tries in total but were edged out as Zug scored at the death, bagging 5 tries.
